Welcome to St. Albert Public Library and to StarFestLogo P539 P362 LR

As we celebrate Canada 150 there are (at least) 150 reasons to be part of St. Albert Public Library—and STARFest is one of them. This is a great year to experience all that our annual literary festival has to offer and the perfect time to be part of our growing Library family, as we are fee free in honour of Canada 150. So spread the word!

STARFest is just one of the ways the City of St. Albert cultivates the arts—in this case the literary arts, with great writers from across the country gathering in our city to share their inspirations and insights. I hope you enjoy this outstanding lineup, which this year includes writers who are making a return visit—you obviously made them feel very welcome when they were last here!

The Insiders Guide to StarFestLogo P539 P362 LR

Welcome to the seventh St. Albert Readers’ Festival, where we travel back in time, explore the paranormal and the gothic, and learn from some of the best in the business.

We ease you in gently with a September event. One of Canada’s most acclaimed writers, and a Canada Reads finalist, M. G. Vassanji, will get us underway.

From October 10 we have a packed program. We welcome back STARFest alumni Claire Cameron and Trevor Cole, whose new works will enthrall fans of well-researched writing. Appearing with Cole will be Emily Schultz whose new novel, like Cole’s book, features the Prohibition era.

Continuing with the theme of history STARFest brings you Steven Price whose new thriller is set in 19th-century London, and Roberta Rich, respected for her 16th-century Venetian saga.

You can get up close to fabulous storytellers, such as popular novelist Elizabeth Hay and Native writer Eden Robinson, and delve into the unique genre of the prolific Kelley Armstrong.

If you want your fix of memoir, Cea Sunrise Person fits the bill with the story of her counterculture family and her subsequent struggles. For a night of laughter, we present former CBC host Bill Richardson.

And if you want to hear from a renowned expert, don’t miss Terry O’Reilly, award-winning ad man and CBC Radio presenter as he shares lessons on marketing from his new book.

This year’s hosts Jacqueline Baker, Miji Campbell, Diana Davidson, Caterina Edwards, Paula Simons, Richard Van Camp and Paula Willoughby will be bringing their enthusiasm, experience and love of reading and writing to ensure you get the most from STARFest 2017.
